Slow Down
Feel the grass on your feet
Find something interesting and dive into it
Move on once you've had your fill. Don't get greedy, there's more to discover.
Feel your body move
Feel the breeze on your face
Greet others with enthusiasm
Take a nap and dream dreams of grass, water, trees, plants and play
Do it all over again
Live the moments to the fullest
Be present
I got a reminder from the website that I hadn't published a blog post in 6 months. Well I have a stack of them. I pulled out my notebooks and will start sharing some of my thoughts to include playing ball with your dog, appropriate dog play, adolescence and more but wanted to start here as we close out this month.
It's been 3 years since I let Chance go. Kind of hard to believe that much time has gone by. I've been cleaning out my phone to free up storage and there are quite a few dog friends we have lost since then. They really are only with us such a short time. I encourage you to remember that when life gets super busy or some behavior problem is driving you mad.
In case it wasn't clear from the business name, I believe that life is more than what we can see and touch. I believe dogs are more than just some thing to be owned and kept. The chalk art above was something someone drew in my neighborhood the day after Chance was euthanized. It was a sign and a comfort. I was fortunate enough to be able to let Chance go in the comfort of our back yard. She got to see all her favorite people that day and got to be outside breathing fresh air while she left this planet. There were cabbage butterflies dancing around in the backyard during the process. I know they have a season and many see them as pests but again to me they were a comfort. Everything is perspective and everything is a story anyways, so why not tell one that brings joy and comfort. A few weeks later, we took a trip to the mountains. I got up early to walk the dogs to the river and let them run around free before other people were out. The whole walk there, a cabbage butterfly flitted around us, hovering just over us, flying down to the dogs and then back to my height as if calling attention to itself. I lost track of it once we got down to the river and the dogs started running around and my attention was solely on them. But that feeling of connection and something much bigger than me has stuck with me. Since then cabbage butterflies always bring me joy and a sense of connection. A reminder that something much larger is at play and that I am just a part of this larger thing called Life.
I feel this same feeling every time we are out at the SniffSpot with the dogs. It truly has been a gift to be able to shift the business and to spend our time out in the forest with the dogs. Watching them thrive is a gift.
